The Latest on SEMA 2005

  • Please read the construction alert if you are driving to the conference or renting a car at the airport.
  • Conference Planning is now complete.  Those who have not yet registered for SEMA 2005 will be able to do so at the registration desk at the Plaza Resort & Spa, beginning at 9:00 AM, Thursday, September 29.  The final program is now available on-line in PDF format.
  • SEMA President Ordelle Hill responds to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  The conference will be unaffected.
  • Conference participants are now being booked into the Conch House Hotel because the Plaza Resort and Spa is fully booked for the conference weekend.  The Conch House is also located on the Atlantic ocean, about 100 yards north of the Plaza.  The special conference rate at the Conch House is $ 54 per night plus tax.  Information on making reservations at the Conch House is available here.
  • As a convenience for participants, there is now a page where you can list Ride-Sharing information or look for (and contact) someone with whom to share a ride.
  • The PROGRAM is now posted on the (wait for it) "Program" link on the left side of these web pages.  You may review the program either as a web page or as a searchable PDF file.
  • REGISTRATION for SEMA 2005 is now open.  You may either register on-line using your Visa or MasterCard, or download paper forms and mail them in.  To begin the process, click on the "Registration" link on the left side of these web pages.
  • If you have concerns about your reservation at the Plaza, please call to make changes rather than doing so on-line.
  • Make your hotel reservations either online through the Plaza Resort and Spa's Website or by calling 1-800-874-7420.  Instructions for online reservations are available here.
  • Those of you planning your travel to Daytona and the Plaza Resort and Spa can now consult the "Travel Tips" link on the left side of the conference web pages.
  • Professor George Brooks of Valencia Community College will be demonstrating his scale model trebuchet during the conference.
  • The Stetson Theatre Department's Fall offering of three short plays by Hrotsvit of Gandersheim will be scheduled during the conference.  SEMA-ites will have the chance to see the show, and there will also be a session discussing issues of production and stagecraft.  Hrotsvit's translator, Professor Katharina Wilson (University of Georgia) will be part of the discussion.
  • Scholar's Choice, Pegasus Press, and the Chaucer Studio are planning to have displays of books and recordings at the conference.
  • Come hear plenary speakers Richard Firth Green ("Wightes as it be:A Prehistory of the Early Modern Demon") and Pamela Sheingorn ("The 'Other' Jesus: Medieval Reception of the Apocryphal Childhood Miracles")
